In the State of Connecticut, Stratford County now requires a certified pool operator and more locales may require a certified operator in the near future. You should check with your local health department for requirements, but knowledge is required as per the State Public Health Code  19-13-B33b. Public pools Section (b)(2) states “Supervisory Personnel. A person knowledgeable in the operation of the pool and in pool water chemistry and testing shall be on duty on the premises where the pool is located whenever the pool is open for use. Names of supervisory personnel shall be submitted to the local health department annually and whenever a change in such personnel occurs.” Additionally, pool technicians are required to have a license to perform service work on pool s and spa in the State Of Connecticut.  For more information on such classes, please contact the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals.

Operators must follow state, county, city and local laws as well as federal laws pertaining to the operation and maintenance of pools and spas.
